Interbike is FAO Schwarz, but for grownups. The show is so full of awesome, so overflowing with amazing, so utterly dripping with fantastic that to be there and find the experience disappointing, the problem is with the visitor, not the show. If someone can’t find something at the show to be excited about, I can only conclude that they either aren’t a cyclist or have some mental condition where they are too cool for the entire world.
Today, this flagship FAO Schwarz, while GREAT, bears little resemblance to the old toy store captured in these photos of my visit on December 12, 2003. The entire retail space that this FAO Schwarz occupies and the surrounding area is very different in the present day. Apple's flagship 5th Avenue store now dominates the front of the General Motors building that houses FAO Schwarz.
Established in 1862, FAO Schwarz is one of the nation's oldest toy retailers and was immortalized in the 1988 Tom Hanks movie "Big," in which the star danced on a floor piano.
