I recently asked friends of the to share the titles of the books they most enjoyed as children. With literally hundreds of suggestions, I have begun compiling them into collections that I will be sharing over the next few weeks, starting today with 50 very popular classic picture books to read with children.
Be sure to leave a comment below letting us know which ones you’ve read or which books from the decade you would add to the list. As always, I’ve linked when possible to free online versions of the stories. For tips on reading classic books, see my first post in the series: (Note: covers and titles are affiliate links)
Maybe it's because the authors lived here, but dozens of classic books for kids are set in the center of New York. Crickets in their pages hang out, not in cornfields, but in Midtown. Mice don't run down country lanes: They sail boats in Central Park.
